01 / Residential Services

Plumbing and HVAC for Blandford homes.

Blandford is Berkshire County hill country: antique colonials, old farmhouses, cabins on rural roads, and homes that have been in families for generations. Every residential property in town runs on private well and septic. There is no municipal water system. We work in that environment every week.

At 1,200 to 1,500 feet in elevation, Blandford’s freeze season is longer and harder than anything you see in the Springfield valley. Unheated crawl spaces, supply lines running along exterior foundation walls, and outdoor hose bibs are all real freeze risks here. We locate vulnerable sections before the season and fix them, rather than waiting for a burst pipe in February to tell you where the problem was.

The Blandford Fair grounds and the town’s long agricultural history mean there is no shortage of older structures on large rural lots. Many of those homes have original or partially updated plumbing. We assess what needs attention now and what can wait, rather than quoting a full repipe when targeted repairs are the right call.

Common Calls

Mon-Fri 7am-3pm. 24/7 emergency for existing customers.

Water Heater Replacement

A failed water heater in a Blandford hilltown home is not a quick errand. We stock and install tank units from A.O. Smith, Bradford White, and Rheem, and tankless units from Navien and Lochinvar. For homes on private wells, we check your well’s flow rate before recommending a tankless upgrade, since instantaneous demand requires adequate yield to perform correctly.

Gas, electric, or propane. Standard and high-efficiency. We pull permits where required, set proper T&P relief venting, and haul the old unit.

Boiler Service & Repair

Homes in Blandford that heat with hot water baseboards or radiators need a plumber who understands boiler systems. We service gas-fired and oil-fired boilers, check heat exchangers, inspect expansion tanks, test pressure relief valves, and bleed air from baseboard loops.

We install replacement boilers from Crown, NTI, HTP, and Lochinvar. If yours is limping through winter or approaching end of life, we will give you a straight assessment and a fair price on the replacement.

A/C Installation & Heat Pumps

A/C service is Biermann’s fastest-growing department, and we are installing systems in homes across Western Mass including the Berkshire hilltowns. Split systems, heat pumps, and ductless mini-splits are all in scope. For an older Blandford farmhouse without existing ductwork, a mini-split is often the most practical path.

We handle the refrigerant lines and equipment installation. Ductwork modifications go to our trusted sheet metal partners. We assess the building and give you realistic options.

Leak Detection & Pipe Repair

Sump pump installation and replacement for Westhampton basements. Ejector and condensate pumps serviced and swapped by licensed plumbers.

Hidden leaks in older homes can run for months undetected, especially in homes on private wells where there is no utility meter to tip you off. We locate leaks behind walls and in crawl spaces and make targeted repairs rather than pulling apart sections that are still sound.

Copper, PEX, CPVC, galvanized. If you are seeing unexplained wet spots, low pressure, or water staining on ceilings or floors, call before the damage spreads.

03 / Serving Blandford

A hilltownwith a long memory and real plumbing needs.

Blandford sits at the eastern edge of the Berkshires, right at the border of Hampden County’s hill country. The terrain runs 1,200 to 1,500 feet in elevation across much of the town, heavily forested with rural roads that wind between old farmsteads and small clearings. The Blandford Fair, one of the older agricultural fairs in the region, reflects the town’s deep farming roots.

The housing stock is older. Antique colonials, 18th and 19th century farmhouses, and the occasional camp or cabin are the rule here, not the exception. That means plumbing that was never designed for modern supply pressures, original cast-iron or galvanized lines still in service, and heating systems that have been patched and extended over decades. We work carefully in those structures, not aggressively.

Every property in Blandford runs on private well and septic. There is no municipal water. That is not a limitation for us. We spec plumbing for well systems, know how to size a water heater when you have a lower-yield well, and factor private septic loads into any drain design.

The winters here are serious. The elevation means colder lows, earlier first freezes, and a longer period of freeze risk than valley towns see. Homes with unheated crawl spaces or exposed supply runs near foundation walls are vulnerable. We would rather help you prevent a pipe burst than repair the water damage after one.

Had a great experience calling Biermann as a first time customer dealing with an ill-timed heating issue in below-zero temperatures. Bill was thorough, quick, respectful and helpful in explaining possible issues. Highly recommend.

Common Questions

Blandford Questions

Frequently Asked

Yes. Blandford is part of our service area, and we schedule calls there. It is a longer drive from West Springfield than the valley towns, so we plan accordingly, often combining stops with work in Westfield or Granville on the same run. Call (413) 547-2970 and tell us what you need. We will give you a straight answer on timing.

Not in terms of what we can do, just in terms of how we plan the job. Virtually every home in Blandford runs on private well and septic, and we are set up for it. We size fixtures for well pressure, spec water heaters based on your well’s flow rate, and understand the limits of private septic when it comes to load and drainage design. We do not drill wells, but everything from the pressure tank into the house is our scope.

At Blandford’s elevation, freeze risk is real and the season runs longer than in the valley. Typical vulnerable spots are unheated crawl spaces, supply lines near exterior foundation walls, and outdoor hose bibs. We inspect, identify the sections at risk, and make targeted fixes. That might be insulation, re-routing a short exposed run, or heat tape where re-routing is not practical. Call before the first hard freeze, not after.

Yes. Boiler service is a core part of what we do, and homes at Blandford’s elevation put real demand on heating systems. We service gas-fired and oil-fired boilers, check heat exchangers, test pressure relief valves, bleed baseboard loops, and inspect expansion tanks. If the boiler is past its useful life, we install replacements from Crown, NTI, HTP, and Lochinvar and give you a straight read on what makes sense.

Yes. A/C installation is our fastest-growing service, and we work in older homes regularly. For a Blandford farmhouse without existing ductwork, a ductless mini-split heat pump is usually the most practical answer. We handle the refrigerant lines and equipment installation. Ductwork modifications go to our trusted sheet metal partners. We can assess the layout and give you honest options for the building you have.

Free consultation for service planning. Formal project estimates are $65. We do not guess at scope or drop a number before we understand the job. For rural hilltowns like Blandford, that conversation also needs to account for travel and scheduling logistics, which we will be upfront about.
