01 / HVAC Overview

Home comfort first. Light commercial too.

When the A/C dies on a 95-degree afternoon, the last thing a homeowner wants is a week of phone tag with three different contractors. Biermann handles residential and light commercial HVAC in-house: air conditioning installation and repair, heat pumps, ductless mini-splits, thermostats, controls, indoor air quality upgrades, and seasonal maintenance plans.

Residential and light commercial air conditioning is our growth department. It runs out of the same West Springfield shop that has been handling Western Mass plumbing since 1983, with the same licensed crew, the same code-compliant workmanship, and the same 1-year labor warranty on every new install.

For homeowners, that means a real local team answering the phone, showing up in a branded truck, and sizing your equipment properly instead of guessing. For property managers and facility owners, it means one point of contact for apartment HVAC, rooftop units on retail and office buildings, and ongoing service across multiple sites.

03 / How We Cover HVAC

What our HVAC department actually does.

Homes come first. Light commercial follows. Sheetmetal is handled by vetted specialty partners, and we coordinate the entire project so you deal with one team.

Residential A/C Installation & Repair

Homeowners across Western Mass call us for the same handful of problems every summer. The A/C quits on the hottest weekend of the year. An older central air system keeps tripping the breaker. One bedroom never gets cool while the rest of the house freezes. A first-time homeowner wants central air added to a house that has never had it. We handle all of it: full central air installation, split-system replacements, repair and diagnostic work on existing equipment, and upgrades to modern, more efficient systems.

Every install starts with a real load review (not a guess off the square footage) and proper equipment selection. We size your system so it actually cools the house evenly, handles humidity correctly, and does not short-cycle itself into early retirement. Every new A/C install comes with a 1-year labor warranty and the same local crew that has been doing plumbing and heating in the region since 1983.

Heat Pumps & Ductless Mini-Splits

Heat pumps and ductless mini-splits have become the fastest-growing corner of our HVAC department. For homeowners, a mini-split solves three problems at once: a single outdoor unit and one or more indoor heads give you efficient A/C in summer and supplemental heat in shoulder seasons, without tearing the house apart to add ductwork. Multi-zone systems let you condition a finished basement, an attic bedroom, or a sunroom without touching your existing heat.

For light commercial properties, condo associations, and small multi-family buildings, heat pumps paired with a backup heat source are often the most cost-effective path to year-round comfort. We install cold-climate air-source heat pumps rated for Western Mass winters, handle refrigerant line runs cleanly through finished spaces, and pair equipment with smart thermostats so you can tune and monitor the system remotely.

Light Commercial HVAC

Apartment complexes, medical and dental offices, banks, retail spaces, and small office buildings all need reliable heating and cooling without the noise and disruption of a job site. Our light commercial HVAC work includes rooftop unit (RTU) installation and replacement, split-system service across multi-tenant buildings, ongoing seasonal maintenance, and planned capital upgrades as existing equipment reaches end of life.

Facility managers and property owners get one point of contact, clean worksites, and technicians trained to work quietly in occupied spaces. For ground-up commercial construction, we provide design-assist support, load reviews, and equipment selection, then coordinate the full install including sheetmetal and controls.

Ductwork & Sheetmetal: Our Trusted Partners

Biermann does not fabricate or install ductwork and sheetmetal in-house. That is a specialty trade, and the shops that do it well have shop fabrication floors and full-time fabricators. We do not pretend to be a sheetmetal company. Instead, we partner with vetted, experienced local fabrication shops for every project that needs it.

On your end, nothing changes. You still deal with one point of contact (us), one proposal, one schedule, and one warranty conversation. We handle the equipment selection, the controls, the install of the mechanical side, and we coordinate directly with the duct fabrication partner on sizing, runs, registers, and commissioning. It is one of the reasons homeowners and property managers keep calling: no scope gaps, no finger-pointing, no “that is the other guy’s job.”
