Homeowners call us to hook up a new gas stove, run a line for a gas dryer, connect a gas fireplace insert, or add a supply to a new tankless water heater. Commercial customers call for restaurant build-outs, commercial kitchen retrofits, boiler replacements, and high-BTU unit heater runs in warehouses and shops. The common thread is that gas piping has to be sized right, run in the correct material, pressure-tested, and permitted before it is ever connected to an appliance.
Biermann holds a Massachusetts Master Plumber license (#16160) and a Connecticut Master Plumber license (#PLM.0288365-P1). Gas piping is within our licensed scope in both states. We use black iron and CSST depending on the run, size lines to the actual BTU demand of the equipment, pull the required permits, and coordinate inspections. Everything we install comes with a 1-year labor warranty.
We serve all of Western Massachusetts, covering Hampden, Hampshire, and Berkshire counties, plus Enfield and Suffield in Connecticut. Our shop is in West Springfield. Call (413) 547-2970 to schedule.

Four buckets that cover the majority of gas line calls we take across Western Massachusetts.
Every gas line Biermann installs is properly sized, pressure-tested, and permitted where required under MA and CT code.
The four most common residential gas line jobs we do are stove hookups, dryer connections, gas fireplace installs, and water heater supply lines. Each one requires proper sizing, a correctly located shutoff valve, and a pressure-tested connection.
Gas range hookups start with verifying that the existing supply line is the right size for your new appliance. Many older homes have 1/2″ distribution where a high-BTU range wants a 3/4″ supply. We measure, replace if needed, install a new flex connector, and leak-check the connection before the appliance goes into position. Gas dryer connections follow the same process: new supply to the laundry location, shutoff valve at the dryer, and a properly sized flex connector from the valve to the appliance.
Gas fireplace and insert installations are more involved. We run a new branch from the nearest distribution main, chase the line through interior walls or crawl spaces where needed, install a concealed shutoff valve near the unit, and connect the appliance. The gas piping work is coordinated with the fireplace installer so the rough-in lands in the right spot.
All residential gas line work is permitted where required in Massachusetts. We pull the permit and are present for the inspection.
Replacing a gas water heater or upgrading to a tankless unit almost always involves the gas supply line. Tank water heaters typically run on 1/2″ supply, but many tankless units have BTU inputs two to four times higher and require 3/4″ or larger piping from the meter. An undersized gas line causes the unit to underperform, short-cycle, or throw error codes. We size the new line to the actual demand of the equipment, not to what was there before.
Boiler gas piping follows the same principle. High-efficiency condensing boilers from Crown, NTI, HTP, and Lochinvar have specific inlet pressure and supply volume requirements. We have worked alongside our heating team on enough boiler swaps to know that the gas scope is where corners get cut. We do not cut them.
For a full list of water heater and boiler brands and product options, see our water heaters and boilers page. For heating system questions beyond the gas supply, see heating services.
A gas smell is a safety emergency. If you smell gas indoors, leave the building, do not operate switches or open flames, call your utility from outside, and call us once the utility has confirmed the area is safe. We locate the source of the leak using pressure testing, repair or replace the damaged section, and confirm the system is leak-free before the gas is restored.
Leaks we commonly find: fittings that have loosened or corroded over time, older flex connectors at appliances past their service life, CSST that was not properly bonded and developed a pinhole, and shutoff valves that have started to weep. We fix the problem at the source rather than patching over it.
On permits: any gas line work that involves new piping, modifications to distribution lines, or a new appliance connection requires a permit under Massachusetts and Connecticut code. We pull the permit, schedule the inspection, and coordinate so your installation is on record. Unpermitted gas work can create liability problems at sale and will not pass a home inspection. We do not skip that step.
Commercial kitchens and restaurant tenant fit-outs need gas distribution sized for the combined BTU load of every appliance on the line: ranges, fryers, ovens, salamanders, steamers, and hot holding equipment. Undersized distribution is one of the leading causes of kitchen equipment underperformance. We work with general contractors and kitchen equipment suppliers to pull the actual BTU specs for each appliance, size the distribution from the meter, and rough in individual drops at each connection point.
For boiler rooms and mechanical spaces in apartment buildings, offices, and municipal facilities, we run gas supply lines to boilers, water heaters, unit heaters, and other gas-fired equipment as part of a broader plumbing and heating scope. That experience in occupied, sensitive buildings means we plan around tenants and coordinate gas shut-offs with building management to minimize disruption.

Medical gas piping is a regulated specialty distinct from natural gas. We install and modify oxygen, nitrous oxide, medical air, and vacuum systems for new dental and medical fit-outs, hospital renovations, and veterinary clinic builds. Brazed copper distribution, properly sized for the equipment count, with code documentation and inspection support.
Common scopes: dental operatory rough-in for nitrous and vacuum, surgical-suite oxygen distribution, vet clinic anesthesia gas piping, sterilizer and autoclave connections. Coordinated with GCs and equipment vendors. Work is scheduled around active patient hours for occupied-facility renovations.

Yes. Connecting a gas range or cooktop is one of the most common gas line calls we get from homeowners. We run a new gas line from your nearest branch, install the correct shutoff valve at the range location, connect and pressure-test the appliance, and inspect for leaks before we leave. If your kitchen has no existing gas service, we can rough in a new line from the meter. Call (413) 547-2970 to schedule.
Yes. Gas dryers need a properly sized supply line, a correctly positioned shutoff valve, and a leak-free connection at the appliance. We run new gas piping from the nearest branch or extend an existing line if it is the right size. If your laundry area has only an electric outlet and no gas supply, we can evaluate running a new branch from your main gas distribution line.
Yes. Gas fireplaces and inserts need a dedicated gas supply line run from your main distribution, a shutoff valve accessible behind or beneath the unit, and a leak-free connection at the appliance. We handle the full scope: sizing, running the line (black iron or CSST), rough-in, connection, and pressure test. Code-compliant, permitted where required.
Yes. New water heater installs often require upsizing or rerouting the gas supply, especially when moving from a tank to a tankless unit. Tankless water heaters have much higher BTU demand and frequently require a larger gas line than what the old tank used. We size the line correctly, run it, connect it, and pressure-test. See our water heaters and boilers page for product options.
Leave the building immediately. Do not flip light switches, use your phone inside, or operate any open flames. Once outside, call your gas utility to shut off service, then call 911 if you believe the leak is active and serious. After the utility confirms the area is safe, call us at (413) 547-2970 to locate the leak and repair the piping. Do not re-enter until a licensed plumber clears the line.
Yes, we pull the required permits for gas line installation and repairs that require them under Massachusetts and Connecticut code. Inspections protect you as the homeowner and are required for any work that touches your gas distribution system. We handle the paperwork and coordinate the inspection.
Yes. Commercial kitchens require high-capacity gas piping sized for the combined BTU load of ranges, fryers, ovens, and steamers. We work with general contractors and kitchen equipment suppliers on tenant fit-outs and restaurant renovations, sizing and running the gas distribution from the meter to each appliance connection. We handle the full coordination: load calculations, rough-in, equipment connections, and pressure testing before the health department inspection.
